Letter from the Commissioner

USA Softball of Indiana:

As everyone is aware, we are dealing with times that our generation has never had to endure before.  The COVID-19 virus has caused the world issues that have not been seen since the early 20th century.  People have been forced into daily routines that they never imagined would happen.  We are learning more every day.  Softball has been a way for people to escape the everyday obstacles that each of us face.  USA Softball of Indiana is incredibly fortunate to have many loyal participants throughout our great state.  I know that everyone is getting anxious to get back on the field.  I have been in contact with Indiana Governor, Eric Holcomb, and the State’s Attorney General office throughout the last 8 weeks.  We have had some interesting and educational discussions during this time.  Everyone is concerned about the health and well being of our state’s population.  The Governor has laid out a plan for our state to start the process of getting back to our normal daily routines.  Recreational softball leagues and tournaments will be allowed to start beginning June 14th.  This date is only a target date for USA Softball of Indiana.  The state is monitoring how the number of hospitalizations, intensive care unit beds, and available ventilators rise from now until June 14th.  If the percentages of those items increase enough to cause concerns about the availability of those items, that date will be pushed back.  If everyone would proceed with caution, we will get to resume playing our great sport on June 14th.  Please try to understand that we are concerned about our players, coaches, managers, spectators, umpires, and tournament workers health, safety, and well being during these trying times.  When we do begin playing , there will be some changes on how business is conducted.  Many local governments will have guidelines laid out for each of us to follow.  Some of us may not like or agree with these changes, but please try to realize they are put in place to make us all healthy and safe.  We will continue to keep everyone informed about the ever-changing climate with continued social media posts on our Facebook pages.  I truly believe that we have the fortitude to combat these trying times.  Keep your eye on the ball and we will be playing soon!
